Lending Assistant

Graham, TX

Reports to: Regional President 
FLSA: Non-exempt

The Lending Assistant position is primarily responsible for administrative support to the Lending Officer in servicing the needs of Bank’s loan and depository customers. Incumbent applies working knowledge of commercial, consumer, and real estate loan documentation to perform work. Works under general supervision and in compliance with established policies, procedures and regulations.

Essential Functions

(Majority of duties, but not meant to be all inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary)

Functional:

  • Answer incoming telephone calls; help with problem solving, research, and customer service.
  • Greet and assist customers.
  • Sign for deliveries.
  • Provide clerical support to the Loan Officers.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the Bank's Credit Policy and deposit products.
  • Provide loan applications to customers and review for accuracy and completeness when returned.
  • Pull credit reports in preparation for loan officer's review of loan application.
  • Order preliminary documents such as title commitments, lien searches, flood certificates, appraisals, environmental reports, etc. based on loan type. 
  • Request appropriate documentation from borrowers, attorneys, lenders, etc.
  • Verifies proper approval on loan source documents in accordance with established lending authorities.
  • Request loan documentation and early disclosures from the Loan Operations Department.
  • Prepares GL tickets, deposit slips, cashier's checks or wire transfers for funding loan proceeds.
  • Assist Lending Officers in coordinating and scheduling loan closings. Participates in loan closings.
  • Prepare loan advances and order inspections as needed for construction loans.
  • Work collateral and financial exception report by requesting documentation from the appropriate source.
  • Prepare denial notices as applicable. 
  • Scan preliminary and trailing documents 
  • Any other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

(Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position.)

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in commercial, consumer, and real estate loan documentation.
  • Basic keyboard skills.
  • Advanced PC skills including word processing (WORD) and spreadsheet (Excel).
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment and general office procedures. 
  • Working knowledge of credit investigation and underwriting terminology, procedures, and related regulations (e.g., Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, and Community Reinvestment Act).
  • Advanced written, oral, interpersonal, and negotiating skill with ability to interact with people at various levels to obtain general and specific credit related information. 
  • Bilingual preferred. 

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma, or equivalent, and 2-3 years related experience. 

Working Conditions

(Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position.)

Internal – Work is normally performed in climate controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties.

External – N/A

Physical Demands

Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most duties are performed from a seated position. Work may include occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds such as files, documents, and computer printouts. Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboard at an advanced skill level. Position includes reading (20% or more of work time spent reading) and extensive computer usage (80% or more of work time viewing computer monitor) as well as close or highly concentrated visual work. Receive detailed information through verbal and electronic communication both in person and by telephone.

(Positions, other than supervisor and immediate co-workers, with which incumbent has frequent contact and the reason for contact.)

Internal – Extensive contact with personnel throughout the Corporation.

External – Frequent contact with customers, title companies, appraisers and insurance providers in order to obtain or provide information and/or assistance and to resolve problems.

This position is responsible for the effective assistance to assigned Bank Lending Officers and for achieving individual production goals
